Hunting Hopes

We live

on a farm in the woods.

We take hunting as serious

as #99 takes hockey.

All four of us are out

for Mr. Big the ultimate trophy.

Most of us beat the bushes many years before finding the Hanson.

It is our life dream to gun him down.

One day we all hope to see him

sleeping

on the wall.

So far we haven’t tracked him down.

Galyn's poem

As I sore
high in the sky
a winter wind hits

I look down and see all
the other boarders
I'll be with 'em soon

The top is near
sounds of laughter echo
to my ears

I am on the top
Queen of the snowy hill
all mine to shred 'n rule

My bindings are tight
on my feet
toque 'n goggles are in place
I'm ready to go

One last look
take one more breath
'n push off down the slop
ready to domate

Skipper

1) Yes they were justified for sure. He was right to be afraid of his father that is a grown man and beating him and his mother when he comes home drunk. It is right to not like alcohol or working at a mill your whole life.

2) I think maybe his father behaved the way he did because maybe he had a father like this, because he said u have to work at a mill like my dad did and my dads dad did. Also maybe he is mad at himself for working at the mill all his life, and drinks and takes it out on other people.

3) Skipper and his Mother would go hide up on the hill, and wait till his father would go to bed and sleep off his drunken state. He also avoided his dad and kept his mouth shut so he wouldn't notice him.

4) Skippers relationship with his mother is really close in the early years, because his father beat both his mother and him, so they stuck together to protect each other. The relationship began to change because its kind of a natural thing for a son to become like his father but also all of his brothers were doing the same thing so he thought it was his roll in life to follow them.

5)
a) In todays world a man is expected to be "hard" to survive, because most women like to feel protected by men, not in all cases but most. Also men are expected to be hard to get a real mans job, not like nurse. This is a stereo type because not all men to be hard to survive, homosexual men aren't hard and they are usually pretty wealthy.

b) Rupert can't accept differences in his sons because he wants them all to be like him, he believes they should follow in his foot steps because that is what a real man does.

c) I would define a man as hard working, able to admit when he is wrong, able to provide for his family, not afraid to get his hands dirty, respectful, trustworthy, and polite to his wife and all women.

Analogy - Allie

English Analogy
Zebra and Lion School - By Allie Ferris-Nichol

In a crazy safari jungle there was a school, a school of lions. The crazy thing about this school is that the teachers were zebras. Why is this so crazy? Well lions do tend to have dominance over zebras. Not only this, but zebras need to learn different things than lions do.

Out in the safari there are many groups of animals. They all paired together to make their own schools. BUT, there were not enough zebras and lions so they had to join together. Every day (five days a week) from nine to three, there was great chaos. No kids really like school, and since lions had so much power over zebras, the students really liked to torment the teachers.

Day to day teacher zebras were wounded with great claw marks going down their sides. They were chased around at recesses as a game. The zebras were teased daily by the lions. The lions thought of school as a joke, and zebras thought of it as their death.

Not only was it dangerous for the teacher zebras, but they really had no idea what to try to teach the lions. The lions were so crazy and out of control that the zebras doubted they would ever listen even if they did find something to teach the,. What lion would REALLY listen to a zebra? Lions needed to learn about hunting and surviving, but zebras knew nothing of this. The Zebra and Lion School was disastrous.

The zebras complained to the Safari Government, and so did the lions parents. The zebras were being tortured and tormented and the lions weren’t learning anything. Eventually the Safari Government grouped zebras together and lions together. This worked much better for everyone. The safari was back to its normal balance!

1) She searched for the voices of her grandmother because she wanted to know who and where she belonged to. She had known that there were Indians in the family histroy, and she wanted to know who it was and if she belonged to one. I don't believe my family has ever tried to uncover their past to figure things out. However, we have a book of our family and its history for the Combres's. I'd like to know more about my ancestry.

2) I think that Christine Welsh should not try and hide her native heritage. It's who she is and she should be happy to have a culture that has lots of trades. Christine should not be ashamed of her culture.

3) I think that she tried to hide that she was Indian because she was different than the other's at school. which she shouldn't be because it's who she is and there is nothing to be ashamed of by being an Indian.

My grandparents and I have a real good relationship. My dad's parents only live a couple miles away from me, so I am closer to them than my other grandmother. Marj and Arnold Combres are real great grandparents. My grandma is always spoiling me and the other grandchildren. I've grown up with them. I am always over there, whether it's to visit with my cousins, or just to visit with my grandma and grandpa. They are very nice people, and couldn't be more caring. I love them!!

However, when I was little my family and I would always go to Kelowna to visit my other grandparents, Victor and Maria Prescesky. It was always fun, but it sucked cause they lived so far away from us and we barely seen them. But when they moved back to North Battleford, Saskatchewan, I got closer to them. But still not like how I would of liked it. When my grandpa past away, everyone was devistated. But life went on. My grandma travels alot everywhere. Even though she lives only like half hour away from my family, we didn't see her as much. But she is always in our thoughts.

Bullying is bad!!

Bullying is bad!!

One day in the big pasture there was a group of young horses that got along with each. They liked all the same food, music, games and sports. Every thing was the same!!! Then one day a zebra came to the big pasture. All the horses stopped playing their games and stared at him. They never seen a zebra before! A adult horse introduced the zebra to everyone. She said that the zebra would be living here for a while and to be nice to him. After the adult horse left all the horses went back to playing their games. Not one of them came up to the zebra to say hello. The zebra felt sad :( and walked way from all the laughter. A few day later some horse seen the zebra and call him freak and many other mean names. The zebra started to cry and ran away. no one seen the zebra again.

I would like to even donate some money to the families who don't have much because I hate watching others suffer. I would like to go taste their foods and see what there sand is like. I keep hearing there is huge difference in the countries.

I want to go experience two weeks in another country to just say I have been there. I would like to go to one of those three places and than go to a country like Brazil and see the difference between these countries. If you knew me I have always like to try new things and experience.

The BBA

In the BBA (Buggy Basketball Association) the team with the most fleas usually wins. Although the gnats may be better shots they just can’t jump as high as the fleas. Using their wings is strictly forbidden so it’s all in jump and agility. This is why the BBA is made up mostly of fleas. They are faster, stronger, and can jump higher than the gnats. There are a few gnats in the BBA. The ones that are in it though are the ones that are super amazing. The best known gnat in the BBA is most definitely Steve Gnat. He’s short and can’t jump but he is an amazing shot.

The fleas are very dominant in this sport. A well-known one nowadays is Shaflea O’Neil. He’s getting old and doesn’t play very often anymore but he is super huge and can jump like crazy. He has always sucked at shooting though but the jump and reach makes up for it.

Super Garden Analogy

In a garden the owners cared for the plants by weeding, watering, and other gardening stuff. Then one day the owners moved and left their garden to the future owners. The new owners did not care for the garden at all. The garden became overgrown with weeds and all the plants that were cared for by the old owners withered away. All that was left in the garden was weeds. A few years later the owners that did not take care of the garden moved away and some new people moved in and weeded and planted new plants in the garden.

This analogy is about a person having a good teacher that taught well. Then having a bad teacher that didn't teach well and having the effects of that teacher for a few years after. Then having a good teacher again.

My new best friend

“A time I wish I could do all over.”

There once was a little short boy named Tommy. He had no friends because he smelled really bad. He would never take a bath, so his dark brown hair always appeared to be greasy. At times he had dirt spots on his round face and clothes. He was a very lonely kid. All the little kids ran away from him because their parents told them to stay away from him. Tommy didn’t like that everyone ran away, it upset him. He loved to go a little green meadow by lake so he could watch the clouds in the sky.
One day he was fishing by himself at the little lake, that’s when I walked up to him. “Hi” I said, “My name is Daniel. Do you mind if I fish here with you?” “Uhh yeah sure.” he said. He looked surprised to see me talking to him. I sat down beside him and watched the ducks swim across the lake as I got my rod ready to fish. “Did you catch any fish yet?” I asked. His eyes sparkled with excitement to tell me that he had five but he likes to let them go after. He told me that he doesn’t like to kill any living being. We started to talk a lot more. He said that he would love a puppy but his parents won’t let him. “My parents are the same way.” I told him. After that day we started to hang and be came best friends.
Voices of the grandmothers:

It was from Christine’s families need to hide their nationality and her own curiosity to uncover her past from where she came from. I kind of want to know where I came from but I don’t really have a need to do it. I guess it’s not that big of deal for me to find where I came from. There are very few things I’d like to know about my ancestors but if I could I’d like to see how they celebrate Ukrainian Christmas.

I think she kept her Native heritage a secret in order to survive (even if it was bullying). I believe that no matter what nationality you are you should be proud of it. The country wives were treated poorly because they were used for cooking and cleaning the men.
Yes I agree with Christine’s denial of her heritage, because I would do the same so survive. She did this because she been an out cast in her school and with her social life.

I have not discovered anything new about me heritage other than I come from Ukraine and I’m part Ukrainian and German. I really don’t care to know about my heritage.

Work and More Work

I heard my name echoing throughout the house; it was time to work on our shop. We were building our shop for a few months already and it was snowing out the day before; so I didn’t want to go out and work in the cold winter air. My dad is a workaholic; he works all day and is not satisfied until there something else to start working on. I think he enjoys work even though he says he doesn’t sometimes. He is always in a hurry to get things done. I on the other hand, like to be lazy and avoid work I if can.

I went to work with him and was not happy with the fact that it was cold outside. We worked the rest of the day light hours. While sheeted and insulated all I really did was pass up metal sheets. I kind of felt useless and bored. We finally went home and I was relieved that we were done for the day.

Now that we're done the building of our shop I'm super glad but there is a new project we had to start and that is my house. We've been working that for a while now and are almost finished and I can't wait.

My Quiet Grandpa

My relationship the with my grandpa is great. He doesn’t talk a whole lot, but there are a few things he always asks. He works every day and I never understand why. I ask him and he says “ what else am I supposed to do?” I tell him he should sleep in and enjoy himself, he just laughs.

My grandpa comes out for birthday supper every year on my birthday. He gives me $20 every year. When he is out we catch up on a variety of different topics. He likes to ask me how school is and gets a chuckle out of my answer which is always the same “oh grandpa” I say, “it was okay.” when I ask him “ how was your day?” he says “slow.”

I enjoy doing all these things with my grandpa.

Reflecting on ma past G!!!!!

Standing in the kitchen being yelled at 3 in the morning is never a good experience. It all started earlier that day when I asked my mom if I could go to a party that night. She told me "no because family is more important than partying." we started arguing and one thing led to another, next thing I know I'm standing on Main waiting for a ride to a house party in Killdeer.

When I finally got to the party, my phone was ringing of the hook! Angry messages in my voice mail and very frustrated texts from my mother had flooded my phone. By that time my phone was off, and my head was spinning from the alcohol I had just consumed... A lot of things that happened during this period of time are not appropriate for school but do involve a sexy party... As I got to my senses, I stumbled out the front door, threw up, and started my long trek home. Walking was tricky, in order to not get picked up the fuzz I had to walk slow and remain calm. There was no way I was going home in a bacon mobile.

When I finally reached my house, I scrambled to find my keys, pockets are a puzzle when you're loaded. At last I grabbed them and tried my hardest to slide them into the lock. As quietly as I could, I stepped into the kitchen, only to find my mom, glaring at me. All I could get out was a slurred "Hey Mom, I'm gonna go to bed." Without saying anything, I could tell she wanted to rip my lungs out and hand them to me in a doggy bag. "Sit down!" she exclaimed, pointing to the chair with a long finger. By this point I was pissing in my pants. In all my years I have never seen this woman that angry. My life was living hell from that day on for the next month.

Becca's Fault

If I could go back and change something it would be running into a fence. This though, was not my fault. We were playing "Hide and Seek Home Free" on main street. Six of us were hiding from Corey. When Brian and Storm some how got separated from us. They were apparently hiding under a tree while Becca, Ryan, Cam, and I hid in someones backyard.
We were laying low when we saw Corey at the post office. That's when Becca decided we should leave through the back alley. So all of us turned around and ran full force into this dark green fence. All of us flew backwards and landed on our backs. It was a painful but funny experience.
