Phrases and Clauses

A phrase describes in more detail.

A clause is made up of a subject and predicate.

The subject is the start of the sentence or what is being talked about.

The predicate tells what the subject is doing.

Phrases:
-down the sidewalk
-up and down the pool
-up in the air
-to the store
-to the zoo

Clauses:
-she went
-he goes
-I want
-he hates
-I like

Sentences
-She went to the store to get some milk.
-Dave went to the movies.
-I went to school.
-Mom went to the shower.
-I am on the phone.

If you don't understand clauses then you wouldn't have a good understanding of a sentence because a clause is a sentence. Phrases are important so that you can keep your audiences attention and keep it more interesting.
