Sentence Structures

Simple Sentences
I went to school.
I went to the movies.
I worked on homework.
I went swimming.
I read a book.

Compound Sentences
I went to the movies but(co-ord. conj.) they were closed so(co-ord. conj.) I went home.
I went swimming and(co-ord. conj.) then I went for ice cream.
I went bowling and (co-ord. conj.)then I went out for a pizza.
David and his brother played video games and(co-ord. conj.) then they went to the movies.
I went to school and(co-ord. conj.) I had science.

Complex Sentences
I went home because(sub. conj.) I forgot something.
I went to school because(sub. conj.) I had to.
I went to my friends house until(sub. conj.) I was told otherwise.
I went to the movie until(sub. conj.) it was done.
Before(sub. conj.) I went to Chad’s I had a shower.

Compound Complex
I went to school and(co-ord. conj.) I worked on my essay because(sub. conj.) it was due.
I went to Chad’s because(sub. conj.) I forgot my book and(co-ord. conj.) I had something to eat.
I worked with my computer so that(sub. conj.)I could make the dictate better but(co-ord. conj.) it didn’t work.
I have a math test because(sub. conj.) I needed one but(co-0rd. conj.) I did not like it.
I took history but(co-ord. conj.) I really don't like it because(sub. conj.) it’s hard.

It is important for the writers to know these things because if they didn't their sentences would not make sense. Also, by knowing these things they are able to change up their sentences instead of having the same old sentence. This keeps the reader interested. It is important for them to know the different structures so they understand where the conjunctions should go.
