1. Christine was fed up with her family denying their Indian heritage and wanted to learn about her family. Nobody I know has a need to find out about our heritage.
2. She did well because the hiding the heritage made life easier for her to get along. She didn’t get bugged for being “Indian” near as much. Old country wives were treated unfairly.
3. It was a survival mechanism because it protected the family from evil people saying/being rude to them or doing harsh things.
4. My family doesn’t talk about our heritage. I just know that I’m a Polish, French-Indian with other random things thrown in there.
