2) I think maybe his father behaved the way he did because maybe he had a father like this, because he said u have to work at a mill like my dad did and my dads dad did. Also maybe he is mad at himself for working at the mill all his life, and drinks and takes it out on other people.
3) Skipper and his Mother would go hide up on the hill, and wait till his father would go to bed and sleep off his drunken state. He also avoided his dad and kept his mouth shut so he wouldn't notice him.
4) Skippers relationship with his mother is really close in the early years, because his father beat both his mother and him, so they stuck together to protect each other. The relationship began to change because its kind of a natural thing for a son to become like his father but also all of his brothers were doing the same thing so he thought it was his roll in life to follow them.
5)
a) In todays world a man is expected to be "hard" to survive, because most women like to feel protected by men, not in all cases but most. Also men are expected to be hard to get a real mans job, not like nurse. This is a stereo type because not all men to be hard to survive, homosexual men aren't hard and they are usually pretty wealthy.
b) Rupert can't accept differences in his sons because he wants them all to be like him, he believes they should follow in his foot steps because that is what a real man does.
c) I would define a man as hard working, able to admit when he is wrong, able to provide for his family, not afraid to get his hands dirty, respectful, trustworthy, and polite to his wife and all women.
